Loton Park 10th & 11th July

The two National B events at Loton on 10th & 11th July were blessed with hot & dry conditions. Saturday practice was a disaster for Ford Escort driver Steve Bailey whose newly-installed Cosworth green-top engine suffered an oil pump failure. Cornwall based Mike Tregoning set FTD with his 2-litre V6 Pilbeam, but was hounded all the way by young charger Alex Summers from Tenbury Wells in his 1200cc OMS, with just 3/10th`s separating them.

On the following day the roles were reversed with Alex claiming a superb FTD, but the close scrap was for second place with Scotsman Iain Davidson just edging out Mike Tregoning by a mere 1/100th of a second.  Another notable performance was by Ferrari 348 driver Nick Taylor who set a new class record on 58.99 seconds to win his class. However, the outstaning performance of the day went to Shrewsbury-based Paul Jarrett riding his 550cc Aprilia who won his class and set a new outright motorcycle hill record.

Top Autotesting Live

Have you ever wondered what Autotesters do in the winter?  They fly south, or to be more accurate, they fly south to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand to perform at Top Gear Live. At least that is what Malcolm Livingston did in February when he was asked to join Paul Swift's team as a replacement for Ken Irwin, who had been taken ill and has now fully recovered back in Northern Ireland, at 2 day's notice.

Over a period of 16 days he drove at the events in Johannesburg, Sydney and Auckland in the Caterham 7, Ford Focus RS and helped to destroy several cars during the infamous Top Gear Football matches. By all accounts it was a hectic but enjoyable prequel to the forthcoming Autotest season.

HAGLEY WINS NORRIE GALBRAITH TROPHY AGAIN!

We have been awarded the prestigious Norrie Galbraith Trophy for the third year running!

The trophy is awarded to the Club whose British Championship event is voted the "Best in the Season". In 2007 and 2008 we won it for the June Loton Park event, but in 2009 it was the Easter meeting which was voted the winner. The award was presented to President Tony Millard & Clerk of Course Jim Gazey by Championship co-ordinator Tony Fletcher during the Championship Awards Dinner held at Chateau Impney. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a "hat-trick" has ever been achieved since the inception of the award.
