The British, Leaders & Midland Championship hill climb on the 12th/13th June was a major event with several added attractions. A maximum entry of over 160 cars was supplemented with a demonstration on Saturday of the three fastest motorbikes, and on Sunday a cavalcade of previous FTD winners. The Club also organised a free buffet and entertainment by "Badly Overdrawn Boys"for all competitors and officials in the Village Hall on Saturday evening.

THE RED ARROWS

We had been promised a fly-past by RAF Cranwell, but hadn`t received confirmaton until a call to my mobile at 10.15 Sunday morning to say they were about to take off from Brize Norton and would be with us at 11.31 a.m!  Panic stations!  A brisk run down to the paddock to alert all the officials and commentators ,and everyone was looking at the skies to the South. At 11.30 and 30 seconds they duly appeared, and with a whoosh of white smoke they were on their way to Cosford Air Show via Shawbury.  Short but very sweet.    Photo by Rich Danby.............Dave Parr

The event was a meeting of two halves with the morning runs bathed in sunshine, and then just as the afternoon runs started the heavens opened, and many drivers elected not to take their second runs. Club President and new granddad Roger Moran was the star of the show, qualifying first for the morning Top Twelve and bagging all 10 points with his FTD time of 45.36. In the wet second Top Twelve, Trevor Willis left it to the very last run of the day to take the other 10 points on offer.  Tom New had a big "off"on Cedar with Chris Merrick`s Gould which sidelined them both, and Amy Tomlin put her Pilbeam into the tyre wall at Hall, and had to be transferred to Shrewsbury General with a suspected broken vertebrae. We wish her a speedy recovery.

The Midland Championship Man of the Meeting was awarded to Dave Uren for  his 1100 cc class win beating favourite Chris Aspinall.
