14th & 15th August National B Weekend
On Saturday 14th August, amid showery conditions, it was another of the Summers family who stole FTD, but this time not Alex but Richard in the family OMS. Simon Hutchinson took his maiden Loton win in his Focus with father Mike snapping at his heels in his superb BMW M3. Graham Wynn invited Will Hall to co-drive his Force Sports Libre car, and the British Championship contender fed vital information on the handling back top constructor Ian Dayson, which enabled suspension tweaks to be made. Several of the top single-seater drivers were caught out by the changeable weather, including John Chalmers who won his class but could not challenge for FTD as expected.
On Sunday 15th August Martin Depper broke his own recently set class record with the Mini, shaving off another 4/10th`s. Club Secretary Dave Parr took his Sierra Cosworth to the roadgoing class win and Karl Stevens got his Gartrac Escort into the 57 second bracket. Will Hall endorsed the suspension mods made the previous day by getting the Force down to 51.67, by far the quickest Sports Libre car time this season. Graham Wynn also benefitted from the improvements and felt the car was handling much better, setting his own PB with the car. Nigel Morris set FTD with his 1600cc DJ on 47.47, his own PB thanks to a new set of Avon slicks. A good entry of TVR`s was split into two classes, headed by Stewart Lobley in his Vixen, and Mathew Oakley in the purple-hued Griffith, who demoted class record holder Paul Edwards into second place.
