Easter Loton in the Sun!
Whilst the entry was a bit on the thin side as a result of a host of cars not being ready for the season, the 109 who did enter were offered 4 practice runs on the Sunday, plus an additional practice on Monday morning prior to the commencement of timed runs.
Dave Wilson was the first to re-set a class record in his Caterham as a result of Class B(i) now able to run on List 1b tyres.
The SWB Audi Quattros of Keith Edwards and Mick Harriman were both running well and provided spectacular entertainment for the good sized crowd of spectators. Keith just edged the class win by 15 hundreds of a second.
Chris Ward and brother Ashley debuted the ex Paul Haimes BDG-engined Mallock built by dad Russ, Chris emerging the winner by 6/10ths of a second.
The 1600 single-seater class was a battle royal with Will Hall and Eynon Price both in Force PCs tying on their first runs and Will just edging the win as Eynon overcooked his second shot.
The re-emergence of ex-hill climb champion Adam Fleetwood in his 1400cc supercharged DJ Firehawk livened up the 2-litre class and he ended up with a splendid new class record 6/10s under the old mark chased in vain by Paul Haimes, the previous class record holder in his Dallara.
Martin Groves took his Gould to win the unlimited class, chased by Scott Moran and Chris Merrick, also in their Goulds, separated by a mere 3/10ths.
TOP 12 RUN-OFFS
The first Top 12 run-off just before lunch looked like a Scott Moran victory, but Martin Groves gave his all as usual, just coming out on top with a new hill record at 44.46 secs.
The second Top 12, being the climax of the day`s sport didn`t disappoint! The track was cooling off by mid-afternoon and another hill record didn`t look likely, but Scott had other ideas and stormed to FTD and a new outright record with his 44.42.
New track record at Easter, your having a laugh aren`t you? No, it`s a fact!
