Here at Loton Park, set in a beautiful deer park, we run three driving schools each year, with the aim of providing an introduction to hillclimbing for newcomers, an opportunity for current competitors to hone their skills and above all provide a great day out.
Our team of highly experienced Motorsport UK licensed instructors will help you learn how to drive this hill correctly in your own car. So if you are a novice looking to start in the sport or an experienced competitor looking shave off those few tenths then the school is for you, and you can do as many school days as you wish, many come back to repeat the experience, we even have regulars that attend most schools.
We are able to offer as part of the course an upgrade signature to your RS Interclub Licence after successful completion of the day and completion of a short multiple choice exam. Only one signature may be obtained from an approved AHASS school.
Our aim is to give you a great day’s driving in a safe and relaxed atmosphere. The cost for the day is £240.
School Day Timetable
Below is the typical timetable of activities you can expect at our Drivers' School days.
Arrive and collect your numbers – then head to the bar for refreshments, tea, coffee and toast.
Welcome introduction, followed by a briefing from the instructors on what to expect from the day and a short safety briefing.
Walk the hill in small groups each with its own instructor, who will explain how you should approach driving the hill, all our instructors are experienced drivers themselves.
Observed runs (we aim to provide 4 before lunch), with instructor feedback after every run. This avoids repeating any mistakes you may have made, we hope!
A buffet lunch for all, so you have the opportunity to chat to your fellow drivers, the instructors or any of the officials who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. A debrief from the instructors on the morning runs.
Observed runs, again we aim for 4, again with feedback after each run.
Tea or coffee and cakes before you leave. Upgrade of licences for those who have requested it.
After the event a certificate will be available in the "classroom" and a link will be emailed to you to watch the video of the days proceedings, with all the good (and possibly not so good) bits!
Anybody over the age of 16 can take part, all you need is a road legal car that is taxed and has a current MOT, suitable clothing ( torso, arms & legs must be fully covered ) and a motorsport crash helmet, if you don’t have a helmet then we have suitable helmets that you may borrow free of charge.
You will not be timed on the hill as the principle is to allow you to learn the correct lines and technique to get the best from yourself and your car. The speed will come naturally as you progress during the day.
Guests are welcome to come with their driver for a small fee to cover catering expenses and will have their own briefing on the day’s agenda in the Paddock area. They can meet up with you in the paddock after every run and can take photos from any of the public viewing areas trackside. Unfortunately, they can’t attend the drivers briefing or walk the hill as this is restricted to drivers only.
The hill will be manned by fully trained Marshals, a Paramedic and full rescue teams to ensure that the day runs in a safe environment.
We look forward to welcoming you to the exacting sport of Speed Hillclimbing. You just might get hooked!
