Great Start to Hillclimb Season at Loton Park

By inviting spectators to attend our first Sunday of racing for free this year we were rewarded with a great crowd in wonderful weather and a good mix of cars to kick off the hillclimb season.

On Saturday we ran a Hagley club members only practice day which attracted an almost full entry with very few withdraws for so early in the year, and after early morning frost the weather was dry and sunny with competitors having travelled from as far away as Guernsey and Jersey to have up to seven timed runs during the day. After our mistakes made last year with the ‘Allswage’ Loton Park Championship, Sunday was round one for 2017 and we already had more than half of our over 50 registered contenders competing. Maximum 10 points were scored by both Peter Kukainis and Peta Marshall with several more beating their own previous best times and it looks as though we are again all set for a very competitive and closely fought series.

Setting the quickest times on both days were Jason Mourant and Graham Wynn in their big engined Gould GR55 racing cars although Tina Hawkes also beat the 50 seconds barrier in her 1600cc Force. The sight of the Audi Quattro Sport of Mick Harriman lighting up all four tyres as it accelerated out of Triangle was well worth being at Loton Park on Sunday to see and brought gasps and applause from spectators on every run. A great weekend to start to our season.
