Excellent end of season weekend with six more new class records

Our final weekend at Loton Park for the 2017 season proved as good as expected with concluding rounds of the MSA British, Leaders and Midland Hillclimb Championships plus the Porsche Club National series. The weather on Saturday for practice started with the track being very damp and slippery but by the afternoon it had dried up and the times reflected this. Sunday started much brighter and the times from the early road-going classes showed new records being set. By the end of the afternoon we had six new times set by Steven Darley, Paul Drowne, Andy Griffiths, Andrew Henson, Scott Moran and Richard Jones. During the day others got under the previous class records and many competitor set personal best times. Scott led the times for both the British championship run offs, and duly won the first one from Trevor Willis –this year’s champion, with Jason Mourant third. However, in the second class runs and qualifying for round 34 of the series Jason broke Scott’s class record, which prompted the latter to go within 1/100 of his own hill record with 43.53seconds. Unfortunately, during the final run-off the year rain started to fall and both Jason and Scott spun off, thankfully without any damage. The outcome was that Trevor won for the ninth time this season, with Wallace Menzies second and Richard Spedding third - the top three in this year’s British championship. Richard Spedding great season also saw him winning the class based Leaders series ahead of Steven Darley and Allan McDonald, whilst Mike Turpin wins the Midland Championship for the fourth successive year and the fifth time in the last six. Full results can be found here on our web-site.
