Our May meeting hosting rounds five and six of the Midland Hill Climb Championship saw Alex Summers sharing Jason Mourant’s Gould racing car for the weekend and they both won one Top Ten run-off round and finished second to each other on the other.
Although we received only a moderate total of entries it included 100 from the Midland series and the added 20 each day from the Paul Matty Sportscars Lotus Championship. There were a number of incidents on Saturday meaning only two practice runs were possible rather than the preferred three of National ‘A’ events. On Sunday the day ran much more smoothly with no significant delays and an early finish was achieved, which it needs to be stated isn’t always possible at all meetings.
With Spring having finally arrived at our April meeting the weather continued to be very kind to us with many competitors setting personal best times and we saw one new record by Johnathen Varley in the class for normally aspirated racing cars up to 2000cc. beating a time that had stood for 8 years.
Our next meeting is June 9/10th when we host the British and Leaders Championships in addition to the Midland series and on both days competitors in the Porsche Club Speed Sprint and Hillclimb Championship.
