The weather was the winner over the weekend but at Loton Park we suffered much less than some venues with both the motorbike Moto GP at Silverstone and the British Championship hillclimb at Gurston Down being abandoned. In fact, on Saturday afternoon we even saw a new class record when the Mini of Lee Kessell set a new time of 63.58 seconds in 1A for Road-going series Production Cars up to 1400cc.
Once again, we attracted a full entry on both days with several championships offering something for every interest including Austin Healeys, MGs, Westfields and Aston Martins plus vintage race action with Cooper 500s from the 1940s and the classic cars from the Bugatti Owners Club. Add in the more modern cars in our ‘Allswage’ series and entries from the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs and the Midland Speed Championships and you had a fine mix of entries.
On Saturday, the 1000cc single seaters set the best times with the Force TA of Chris Jones fastest in 48.49 seconds leading the Jedi of Stuart Bickley. However, on Sunday Stuart secured FTD but his time of 56.01 seconds was a reflection on the difficult, wetter track conditions.
