The sun shone and the temperatures soared all weekend in Shropshire for the last of our one day meetings over two days of the August Bank Holiday. However, some drivers were still unhappy – “ my car overheats when it’s this hot”, “ I’m too hot in the car with all this on”, "the tyres get too hot”, "the track surface is too warm”, etc. Others just got on with it and set personal best ever times and new class records!
We had received an over-subscribed number of entries for both days and on Sunday only drivers entered in an invited Championship got to compete! A very pleased Clive Austin was quickest on Saturday in his 1100cc. Empire Wraith with a new personal best time of 48.32 seconds, with Stuart Bickley close behind. However on Sunday Stuart was quicker in his 1000cc. Jedi with a best of 47.95 seconds. On Saturday, in the Bert Hadley Pre-war Austin 7 classes Colin Danks clocked 69.94 seconds in his Sports Special to beat the previous best time which had stood since 1996. Adam Phelps also beat the Westfield Sports Car Club record with a best time of 51.20 seconds, although on Sunday he could not repeat the time he did win their class again, five seconds ahead of second place.
With a great mix of cars on both days and the weather spoiling us it was a wonderful weekend and we now await the final meeting of the season when we host the final rounds of the national British, Leaders and Midland Hill Climb Championships for two days at the end of September.
