DAVE LUCAS

It is with great sadness that we (HDLCC) learnt over the weekend of the passing of Dave Lucas.

Dave joined the Hagley and District Light Car Club in the early 1960's and went on to form the Monarch Motor Club. Dave competed in a good number of Rallies over the years including the RAC Rally in 1973. He was involved in West Midlands Motorsports for over 50 years and and was a member of BTRDA, Owen MC and the Historic Rally car Register HRCR.

Over the years, Dave competed in virtually every form of motorsport, both on two wheels and four. Included in these are Rallies, Autocross, Car Trials, Drag Racing, Bike Trials, Speedway and as a steward for Speed records.

Dave was for many years a National and International Steward for the FIA, FIM, the RACMA and lately Motorsport UK where he acted not only as a trainer but also as a past Chair of the Clerks and Stewards Committee.

Dave organised many events over the years, but of particular note was the International Birmingham Super Prix, a spectacular race around the roads of Birmingham, sadly a one off.

Over the last couple of years, Ill health took its toll on Dave, but whenever he was able he could be found at one of the Midland Hills, always ready to help and advise and an absolute pleasure to spend time with.

The sport has lost a tremendously knowledgeable man; a gentleman; many of us have lost a guide and mentor, the likes of which we may never see again

Goodnight, God Bless, Rest in Peace Sir.
