Although the weather tried hard to disrupt both days we had a great weekend with the MSA British, Leaders and Midland Championships along with the Porsche Speed series.
Sunday morning started very much better than Saturday, even with periods of sunshine and the first Top-12 run-off saw Scott Moran winning ahead of Trevor Willis and Alex Summers. However, in the afternoon the rain greatly affected the result with the time of early runner Sean Gould proving fastest ahead of Wallace Menzies and Graham Wynn, with championship leader Trevor Willis only ninth, although he is still ahead in the series with 80 points, followed by Scott on 68 and Wallace 65 points.
In the class based Leaders championship, Richard Spedding added two more wins and now leads the way with 57 points from Eric Morrey on 50 and both Lee Griffiths and Harry Pick with 43 points.
Reigning Midland champion Mike Turpin is still the only driver with five class wins from 5 events, but with the best seven scores from 9 rounds to count at the end of the season it may be that a bonus point for breaking a class record could decide the championship.
Although Scott Moran set the best time of the day in winning the first Top 12 run off, the ‘Star of the Day’ was Tina Hawkes who set a new Ladies Record of 48.58 seconds in her Force PC 1585cc. racing car.
All results and times from both days are posted on our web-site. Our next events at Loton Park are two 1 day events on July 15 and 16, when we host the bikes and sidecars/ trikes on both days, plus car championships for Ferraris, Reliant Sabre and Scimitars, the DEWS Downton Minis, the Jaguar Drivers Club, Morgan sportscars and the ‘Allswage’ Loton Park series for Hagley members.
