Many more new personal best times and one amazing record

August 18, 2017

On the second weekend of hillclimbing on our newly resurfaced hill at the start of August many competitors set best ever times but Robert Kenrick set new records on both days in the 1100cc class, finally beating Darren Luke’s time from 9 years ago by over two seconds! Since September 2009 the record for the up to 1100cc racing cars had stood at 47.62 seconds and only six drivers in the class had since beaten 49 seconds, so to see Robert set a time of 46.43 on Saturday was a surprise and even more so on Sunday when he then lowered record again at 45.53 seconds. This made Jason Mourant very determined not to be beaten and he set his own personal best ever times with 45.24 on Saturday and 44.91 seconds on Sunday – both being the best times of the day.
After 8 of the 10 rounds of our ‘Allswage’ Loton Park Championship and with only the best 7 to count for awards at the end of season dropped scores are now effecting class and overall positions. In class 1 the father and son team of Shawn and Andrew Howson lead the way in their shared 1600cc Westfield sports car but are being chased hard by Peta Marshall in her 2-litre Fisher Fury, Bob Ridge-Sterne’s Toyota GT86 and the Subaru Impreza of Mike Reece all in class 2 and Mark Honey’s Peugeot 205 GTi from class 3.
Although we had invited several championships to both days including the Classic Marques, TVRs, Triumphs and historic rally cars we had our lowest entries levels of the season and with competitors generally staying on the tarmac over the weekend we had early finishes on both days.
Our next weekend at Loton Park is August Bank holiday Saturday and Sunday when we have received full entries on both days with a great variety of invited championships with Austin Healeys, MGs, Westfield sports cars, Aston Martins plus the older pre-war Austin 7s and the 500 racing cars from the 1950s.
