The August Bank Holiday meeting at Loton Park was blessed with great weather on both days. Many competitors achieved new personal best times as they continued to enjoy the recently resurfaced track and more new class records were set.
This was our last weekend of one-day meetings this year with several invited championships meaning full entries on both days and a very varied mix of cars from the Austin 7s of the 1920s, the 1950s single seaters of the 500 Owners Club, Austin Healeys, MGs, Aston Martins, Westfields and the most modern saloons and racing cars.
Robert Kenrick had set a fantastic new record at our last meeting in the up to 1100cc. racing car class and on Sunday he went even quicker at 45.32 seconds, whilst setting fastest times on each day. We also had new records from Nick Reynolds in his 500 Cooper Mk. 9 at 64.166 seconds, Tom Whittaker, who broke his Aston Martin class record at 60.91 seconds in his modern GT4 and Martin Jones set the Bugatti OC Classic Car Championship record at 56.24 in his Brabham BT21 single-seater dating from 1967.
